NHS physiotherapy staff in England are today taking part in their first ever strike over pay - with polling on the eve of action showing strong public support.

The need to retain and support the existing physiotherapy workforce across Wales must not be forgotten, says the CSP.

NHS physiotherapy staff in all Welsh Health Boards will strike on 7 February, the CSP has announced. This will be a national strike and the first time physiotherapy staff in Wales have walked out over pay.

NHS physiotherapy staff will strike at a further 32 health trusts across England on 9 February, the CSP has announced today.

Professor Karen Middleton, chief executive of the CSP, has announced her intention to retire at the end of 2023.

Further discussions are to take place between health unions and civil servants after a meeting with the Welsh government that made additional money available for an NHS pay award.

The CSP, along with other health unions, won’t be submitting joint evidence to the NHS pay review body for the next wage round while the current industrial disputes remain unresolved. 

The Scottish government has announced urgent measures to address the pressures being faced by the NHS.

The CSP will announce the first of its strike dates in England this week after a meeting with the health secretary failed to produce tangible progress in the dispute over NHS pay.
