CSP members recognised for their outstanding contributions

Commendations have been awarded to seven CSP members for their leadership, advocacy and peer support in physiotherapy.

Earlier this year, the CSP launched its first commendation scheme to recognise and celebrate members for their leadership in building the physio community, advocacy, or peer to peer support.

Since then, seven commendations have been awarded to people who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the physiotherapy profession. Each of these individuals has made a significant difference to physiotherapy patients, students or workplaces.

Yogita Stokes

Yogita Stokes, who works as an advanced practitioner in Birmingham, has been championing equity, diversity and belonging amongst the Advanced Practice Physiotherapy Network (APPN) and wider physiotherapy profession. Yogita was the first Diversity Officer of this network.

Dr Ehab Georgy, who works at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, successfully expanded the early supported discharge services for stroke across Suffolk during a period of budget cuts. Ehab did this alongside giving compassionate care to his patients and being a supportive leader to his team.

Upon receiving his commendation, Ehab said:

I’m delighted and humbled by the commendation certificate and very glad the excellent work the whole stroke ESD service in Suffolk is being recognised.

John Patrick Kane, now a second-year physiotherapy student, formed a physiotherapy society at the University of Chichester. John has also been building relationships with physiotherapy clinics and businesses in Chichester to provide extra courses to students to build on their learning and experience.

Upon receiving his commendation, John said: 

Thank you for this recognition, I am really taken back by your kind words. When starting this Society, there was a clear ambition to assist future physiotherapists from all walks of life to network and add value to their studies by communicating with people from different backgrounds.

Dr Yetunde Dairo

Dr Yetunde Dairo, an Associate Professor of Physiotherapy at Buckinghamshire New University, created a simulation-based experience for students as their first practical placement. This innovative approach gives students valuable hands-on experience early on in their education.

Upon receiving her commendation, Yetunde said:

I am delighted to contribute to practice-based education. I believe that by implementing simulation placements, we not only increase placement capacity but also enhance the student experience and promote inclusive learning.

Tim Pigott, a physiotherapy lecturer at the University of Salford, has been producing evidence-based content for physiotherapists in the world of ultra running and cycling.

The CSP would like to thank each of these individuals for their hard work and dedication which has had a profound impact on the lives of patients, has transformed workplaces and has enhanced the education of physiotherapy students.
