The CSP is saddened to learn that our member, Neil Black, former performance director for British Athletics, died earlier this month.
Black, who was 60, qualified in 1981 and had a successful career as a sports physiotherapist, including posts as national lead physiotherapist at the English Institute of Sport and chief physio for UK Athletics, before his role at British Athletics.
The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM) life member Lynda Daley, paid tribute to him, saying: ‘Neil was always well liked, well respected and a very approachable and positive colleague, and he was the ultimate professional who gave so much of his life to sport and his athletes.
‘As a former athlete himself, Neil loved the sport of athletics. He initially worked as a private practitioner during which time he supported track and field athletes at numerous training camps, competitions and international events until he was subsequently appointed to a full-time physiotherapy role within the sport. When the English Institute of Sport was established in 2002, Neil was the obvious candidate to be appointed to the role of lead physiotherapist for the institute.
‘Neil was an extremely hard-working individual who dedicated so much of his time and energy to others but he was also interesting, honest and great fun to be with. Neil had a huge impact on those around him and he will most definitely be sorely missed by so many.’
